The Flowering Desert
The Flowering Desert is a planetarium opera, inspired by the experience of the astrophysicist Dr. Amaury Triaud in the discovery of the TRAPPIST-1 solar system.
We follow the thoughts of an astrophysicist who explores the border between fact and imagination. It is a surround sound immersive experience, with a tailor made music of the spheres, which puts the audience inside the mind of a scientist and the TRAPPIST-1 solar system. With live performers, stunning projections and celestial music this will be a beautiful night with the stars.

This piece was created in collaboration with physicist Dr. Amaury Triaud, planetarium lead Colin Hutcheson, AV expert Leon Trimble, director/designer Alexander Kaniewski, artists Amy Bradley, Niambi Robinson, Yuan Wang and Lina Mbaa, and film maker Tadas Stalyga. The first production was commisioned in 2022 by Univeristy of Birmingham for their Commonwealth Games Culture festival and first performed at the ThinkTank Planetarium Birmingham. It has since been performed for the Music Since 1900 Conference and at the National Astronomy Meeting in the Butterworth Hall of the Warwick Arts Centre with www.seethesun.org.
